Symptoms
Asthma feels like you can’t get air all the way in or out, often with wheezing, coughing or a tight band around your chest. Symptoms come and go, and they can be mild one day and serious the next.
If any of these sound familiar, your asthma plan likely needs a tune-up. That’s a good reason for a visit even when you feel okay today.
Where to go
Most asthma care happens in the clinic. A severe attack is an emergency and needs the ER or 911.
Mild to moderate flares, wheezing after a cold, a nebulizer treatment, new symptoms, inhaler checks and asthma action plans. Walk in weekdays 8 AM to 5 PM or during special Saturday hours.
Refills when you’re stable, questions about your action plan, or talking through a mild change in symptoms with a provider by video.
Can’t speak in full sentences, lips or fingernails turning blue or gray, ribs pulling in with each breath, or a rescue inhaler that isn’t helping.
Diagnosis
Asthma is diagnosed from your symptoms, history and exam, and sometimes with lung function tests. If your provider thinks you need breathing tests like spirometry, they’ll talk with you about next steps.
Your provider asks when symptoms happen, what sets them off and how often you use your rescue inhaler, then listens carefully to your lungs.
When a cold or fever kicks off a flare, in-house flu and strep tests or a respiratory panel can help find the cause.
Lab services →Allergies are a common asthma trigger. Testing can show which pollens, pets, dust or molds bother you, so you know what to avoid.

Treatment
Asthma treatment usually has two parts: a quick-relief medicine for flares and, for many people, a daily controller medicine that calms the swelling in the airways over time. Your provider will explain which inhalers you need and when to use each one. Getting the technique right matters, because a lot of medicine ends up in the mouth instead of the lungs when an inhaler is used too fast or without a spacer.
An asthma action plan puts it all on one page: what to take every day, what to do when symptoms start, and when to get emergency help. We also talk about triggers at home, at school and at work, like smoke, dust, pet dander, pollen, strong smells and cold air. Careprime Clinic is close to home for families in Rosharon, Iowa Colony, Manvel, Arcola, Fresno and Sienna.
