Is this visit right for you?

Is a Preventive Visit Right for You?

A preventive visit is for when nothing is wrong yet, and you want to keep it that way. These are the kinds of things people tell our front desk when they call.

  • “I haven’t seen a doctor in about five years”
  • “My job needs a physical and a TB test before I start”
  • “My son has football tryouts next week”
  • “My mom and dad both had diabetes and I want to get checked”
  • “I just turned 40 and figured it was time”
  • “I need my cholesterol rechecked”
  • “I’m due for my pap smear”
  • “Can I get a flu shot while I’m there”

Good reasons to book a checkup now

  • No physical or labs in over a year
  • A family history of heart disease, stroke or diabetes
  • Gaining weight without a clear reason
  • Feeling more tired than usual
  • Smoking or vaping, now or in the past
  • A school, sports, work or program form that’s due

If something is bothering you right now, like pain, a fever or a new rash, book a sick visit instead. We can still add screenings once that problem is handled.

Know the difference

Preventive Visit vs. Sick Visit

A preventive visit looks ahead. A sick visit deals with a problem you have today. Insurance plans often bill them differently, so it helps to know which one you’re booking.

Preventive visitSick visit
Why you come inYou feel fine and want a checkup, screening or form completedYou have a new symptom, injury or flare of a known problem
What happensFull exam, history review, age-based screenings, labs and shotsFocused exam and tests aimed at the problem you came in for
Typical testsBlood pressure, lipid panel, A1C, CBC, urinalysis, pap smear, EKG if neededFlu, strep or COVID test, urinalysis for a UTI, or other tests that fit your symptoms
How oftenUsually once a year, or as your provider advisesWhenever you’re sick or hurt
InsuranceMany plans cover preventive care differently from sick care; check your planUsually your regular office visit copay or deductible applies

If you bring up a new problem during a physical, part of the visit may be billed as a sick visit. Our front office can explain how your plan handles that.

Screenings

Screening Tests We Offer in Rosharon

Your provider picks screenings based on your age, sex, family history and habits. A normal result is good news, but it doesn’t rule out every problem, so keep up with yearly visits.

Your Preventive Visit, Step by Step

  1. Check-in & paperwork. Bring your insurance card or ID, a list or bag of your medicine bottles, and any school, sports or work form that needs a signature.
  2. Vitals. We check your blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height and weight.
  3. Talk and exam. Your provider asks about family history, sleep, diet, activity, smoking and mood, then does a hands-on exam.
  4. Tests and shots. Blood work, urinalysis, an EKG, a pap smear or a flu shot are done during the visit when they’re part of your plan.
  5. Results and next steps. We go over results with you and set a follow-up if anything needs a closer look. Many follow-ups can be done by video.

A physical focuses on a full hands-on exam and blood tests. A wellness check is more of a conversation about your habits, family history and which screenings and shots you’re due for. Many people combine both in one yearly visit, and our staff can help you pick.

Careprime Clinic lists self-pay rates on our Cash Pricing page. For example, a full physical with blood tests is $250, a school sports physical is $45, an EKG is $50 and a flu shot is $35. Office fees may apply, so please confirm with our front office before your visit.

Many plans cover a yearly preventive visit, but what’s included depends on your plan. Careprime Clinic works with most insurance plans, including BCBS, United Healthcare and Cigna. Call your insurer or our front office to check what your plan pays for.

It depends on which tests you’re getting. Some blood sugar and cholesterol tests are more accurate after an 8 to 12 hour fast with water only. Ask when you book, and keep taking your regular medicines unless your provider tells you otherwise.

Most adults should have their blood pressure checked at least once a year. Blood sugar and cholesterol testing often starts in early adulthood and is repeated every few years, or more often if you have risk factors like extra weight or a family history. Your provider at Careprime will set a schedule that fits you.

Yes. Careprime Clinic sees children and teens for school, sports and camp physicals. Bring the form from the school or league, any glasses your child wears, and a list of medicines or allergies.

Usually, yes. We can give the seasonal flu shot during a physical, wellness check or other visit at Careprime Clinic. Tell the front desk at check-in so we can plan for it.

The flu shot is the vaccine we list on our site. Vaccine supplies change, so call Careprime Clinic at (832) 400-2050 to ask what is available before you come in.

Yes, TB testing is available at our Rosharon clinic. Bring any paperwork your employer, school or program requires, and ask the front desk about when to come back if your test needs to be read later.

Yes. Careprime Clinic sees seniors for yearly checkups, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, cholesterol testing, EKGs and flu shots. Bringing all your medicine bottles helps your provider check for duplicates or interactions.
