Reasons people come in

Common Reasons for STI Testing in Rosharon

People get tested for all kinds of ordinary reasons. Here’s what we hear most, and what happens next.

New Partner

What patients tell usI’m starting a new relationship and want to know where I stand.

How we helpWe talk about screening based on your history and order the tests that fit. No lecture.

Possible Exposure

What patients tell usA condom broke last week and I’ve been worried ever since.

How we helpTell us roughly when it happened. Timing affects which tests are useful now and whether a repeat test later makes sense.

Partner Tested Positive

What patients tell usMy partner just told me they have an STI.

How we helpWe evaluate you, test as needed and talk through treatment and follow-up.

New Symptoms

What patients tell usIt burns when I pee and there’s discharge I haven’t had before.

How we helpWe examine you and test for likely causes. Some of these symptoms come from a UTI instead, so a combined UTI/STD panel is available. Learn more →

Pregnancy or Planning One

What patients tell usWe’re trying for a baby and I was told to get screened.

How we helpSTI screening is a standard part of prenatal and pre-pregnancy care. We help you get the recommended tests. Learn more →

Routine Screening

What patients tell usI don’t have any symptoms. I just want a regular check.

How we helpMany STIs cause no symptoms, so routine screening is a smart choice. We base it on your age and risk factors.

Prefer to ask questions first? Telemedicine visits are available, and you can come in for testing afterward.

Symptoms

What Can an STI Feel Like?

A sexually transmitted infection is an infection passed through sexual contact, and many cause no symptoms at all. When symptoms do show up, they can look like other common problems, so testing is the only way to know for sure.

  • “It burns when I urinate”
  • “I noticed a sore that wasn’t there before”
  • “There’s a discharge that isn’t normal for me”
  • “I’m itchy down there and it won’t go away”
  • “Sex has started to hurt”
  • “I’m spotting between periods”
  • “One of my testicles is sore and swollen”
  • “I feel fine, but I can’t stop worrying about an exposure”

Symptoms that often come along

  • Burning or discomfort with urination
  • Unusual genital discharge
  • Sores, blisters or bumps in the genital area
  • Pelvic or lower belly discomfort
  • A new rash or skin changes
  • Sore throat after oral sex

Having one of these doesn’t mean you have an STI. Yeast infections, UTIs and skin irritation can cause similar symptoms, which is why testing beats guessing.

Routine Screening vs. Testing for Symptoms or Exposure

Both visits are confidential, but the focus is a little different depending on why you’re coming in.

Where to go

STD Concerns: Clinic, Video Visit or ER?

Most STD testing and treatment belongs in a primary care clinic, but a few symptoms need emergency care.

Careprime Clinic

Burning, discharge or sores, a possible exposure, a partner’s diagnosis or routine screening. Walk-ins are welcome at 15030 Highway 6.

Telemedicine visit

A private way to ask questions, talk through exposure timing or go over results from home. Samples for testing are collected in person.

Emergency room / 911

Severe belly or pelvic pain, fever with pelvic pain, sudden severe testicle pain or fainting need emergency care right away.

Testing

How STD Testing Works in Rosharon

No single test checks for every STI, so the provider matches the tests to your symptoms and type of exposure. A negative result taken too soon after an exposure may need to be repeated later.

Urine Test

Often used to check for infections like chlamydia and gonorrhea. You’ll give a small urine sample in a private restroom.

Swab Testing

Swabs of the genital area, throat, rectum or a sore may be used, depending on your symptoms and the type of exposure.

Blood Tests

Some infections, such as HIV and syphilis, are usually checked with a blood sample.

STD-Only Panel

For patients who want STD screening without a UTI check. The provider explains which infections the panel covers.

Lab services →

Combined UTI/STD Panel

When burning or frequent urination could be either a UTI or an STI, one visit can check for both.

Urine Pregnancy Test

Can be added when a pregnancy would change treatment choices, or simply when you’d like to know.

Your Visit, Step by Step

  1. Private check-in. Check in as usual. Your reasons for the visit are discussed privately with the provider in the exam room.
  2. Honest conversation. The provider asks about symptoms, partners, protection and the date of any exposure. These questions are routine and help pick the right tests.
  3. Sample collection. Depending on the tests, you give a urine sample, a swab, a blood draw or a mix of these.
  4. Results. We reach out with your results and explain what they mean in plain language.
  5. Treatment & follow-up. If something comes back positive, we talk about treatment, when to retest and how to let partners know.

Treatment

STI Treatment and Follow-Up in Rosharon

A positive result is a medical issue, not a judgment about you. Many STIs can be treated with medication, and others can be managed with ongoing care and follow-up.

Your provider explains what the result means, whether treatment is recommended and when to test again. We also talk through how to protect partners and which partners may need testing, so you aren’t left figuring it out alone.

  • Clear explanation of every result
  • Treatment when recommended
  • Retest timing after treatment or exposure
  • Guidance on telling partners
  • Tips to lower future risk
  • Video follow-up visits available

Yes. Many sexually transmitted infections cause no symptoms, especially early on. That’s why routine screening based on age and risk factors is recommended, even when you feel fine.
